“male comrades, Indeed, they were often guilty of in-
peding its devclopment. But in the course of our dis-
cussions, we found that full clarity did not cxist among
our women cadros on the character of such a movenent.
How did this show itsclf?
"Two tendencics emerged in our discussions.
First was the tendency which argued that, since an
outstanding wealmess of the past was the failure to
build unitcd-front movements among working class and
Negro women, it was now nocessary. to limit oursclves
to the organization of a working-class women's pcace
movement. Clearly such a tendency is wrong. It fails
to understand the full concept of our Party's united-
front poaco policy which is to croate a movement bascd
on the working class in unity with all other poacc-loving
pooplics, It roflccts a lack of faith in the working-
class women thomsclvcs who can and will lcad ail strata
of the women in their strugglc for peace, This tendency
has 'licftt-scctarian implications, For to defeat the
warmakcrs, it is neccessary to unite all sections of the
women under tho lcadership of the working women, as
it is neccessary to unite its broad allics undcr the
leadership of the working class.
"Scocond was tho tendency to scc the nocd of
bringing into boing a poaco movoment embracing 211 women.
Such comrades argucd that the broad masses of women in
our land, becauso of their oppressed social status in
present-day socicty, because of thoir role as mothers,
ag tho ercators of life, are dcoply opposcd to war and
can bo won in thoir majority to pcaco, However, in pro-
senting this gcnorally sound point of viow, tho comrades
undorostimated tho need that such a movement be rooted
first of all among working-class women. Nogro and
white. This tondency had certain Right-opportunist
implications bocause thore was absont the understanding
that the sharp turn to tho working class, required in
all phasos of Party work, applicd to tho fiocld of work
among women as well,
