Mrs. King in the book recounts how in the Summer of
1965 King went to Chicago for an SCLC drive and decided not to
stay at a hotel but to rent a slum apartment in order to share
with the people of the ghetto the kind of life that was imposed
upon them daily by the system. She said he was almost like a
