The following references in the file captioned "Poor
People's Campaign" contain information. pertaining to thé activities
of Coretta see ge onnegeton with the PPC, during the pettod April,
1968-June, 1968, in California, Georgia, and WDC. _ The PPC, sponsored
by the SCLC, was planned by the late Martin Luther King, Jr., President
of the SCLC, to conduct a masSive civil disobedience campaign in the
Nation's Capital in the Spring of 1968, in an éffort’ to“pressure Congress
into passing legislation favorable tothe Negro. Mrs. King participated
in contingent marches, rallies and mass meetings in support of the PPC.
she was scheduled to appear at a rally of a contingent of the PPC in
Philadelphia on 5/14/68 and to participate in a SCLC sponsored Mothers
Day March in WDC on 5/11/69. In connection with the second phase of
the PPC in Mississippi, King was to appear at a rally in June, 1969 in
Jackson. The SCLC activities of King and her association with SCLC
officials were also set forth. She was against the Vietnam War and was
a major speaker on 11/29/65 at a anti-Vietnam War demonstration held tin
WoC. King planned to attend the 1968 Republican Convention in Miami,
Fla. Information concerning the. preparation and arrangements of a book
entitled "My Life With Martin King" to be written by Mrs. King, was
also included.
