The National Peace Action Coalition (NPAC) and the
Peoples Coalition for Peace and Justice (PCPJ) sponsored
a series of demonstrations in Washington, D.C., during the

including labor unions, G.I.'s, and the black community to
effect the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. foreas from
Southeast Asia and abolition of the draft. The PCPJ described
itself as comprised of over 100 organizations whose purpose is g-
to combat the issues of racism, poverty, repression and war. Jo
On April 29, 1971, the Spring Demonstration Against Poverty,
War -and Repression as sponsored by the Southern Christian
adership Conference (SCLC), was held at Washington in conjunction
.wWith the NPAC and PCPJ demonstrations, and featured Ralph D.
Abernathy, President of SCLC, leading a mule train to the
U.S. Capitol. With Abernathy calling for a guaranteed annual
income of $6,500 for a family of four, other speakers at the.
Capitel rally included Bella Abzug, National Student Mobilization
Committee Secretary Debra Bustin, Senator Vance Hartke, and
Coretta S. King. In her speech, Mrs. King spoke of the trouble
in America, of churches and schools having been napalmed by
those who seek personal profits, (our) cities are dying from
bankruptcy, having mass murders, fear exists everywhere and the
