Bureau Agents who observed the activity of the civil rights movement. in Selma, Alabama which’ pertained to the registration of Negro voters advised that on 2/4/65-Mrs. Martin Luther King and Mrs. Ralph Abernathy appeared at the Browns Chapel, AME Church. During © their stay at the church they contacted several civil rights leaders and indicated that they would attempt to see their husbands who were in the city jail. Records of the Selma Police Department revealed that Martin King and Ralph Abernathy were arrested on 2/1/65 and charged with failure to obey an order of an officer and violation of the parade.’ ordinance. 44e12831-324 ench. p.1d Qh Derry atvised that on 2/10/65 during a meeting of the Women for Legislative Action heid at 732 North Highland Avenue, Los Angeles, it was announced that the Women's Strike for Peace (WSP) . (62-107350) was giving a luncheon on 3-6-65 to honor Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr AOC ; Leyes ara ntvised that the WSP held a brunch in honor of King on 3 a he Beverly Hills Hotel. on (IY — The 3/7/65 issue of the "Los Angeles Times" carried an article entitled "Mrs. King Asks Women To Heip In Rights Fight." This article related that $50 members and guests of WSP attended this meeting. (No details set out) 62-107350-576 p.10,2 ; cw 7350-576 p 5 CAUP advised that Mrs. Martin Luther King appeared as a speaker at Garfield High School, Seattle, Washington. on 3/9/65.
