Dear Sir:
Now that most of the facts are in concerning last Wednesday's
Skyjacking are in, one thing is very apparent: If this one is suc-
cessful, we can expect others to follow. In any case, this was 4
unique method,
When I heard the hijacker requested and got parachutes, I sur-
mised they might be rigged so they wouldn't open. But no, the man
might make a hostage jump with him. Then I began thinking "if I were. -
dealing with a hijacker and he requested two parachutes, what would
I do? Being around an airport with all that avaation equipment.......*
Of course! Remembering back a while, when there was a furor about
how hard it is to locate a small plane that has crashed, there was
an outfit an the nightly news telling about an emergency transmitter
in a little plastic case which sent continuous signals to help locate
a downed craft. Why couldn't a smart guy stuff one of these into a
parachute case?
A little afterthought, though it doesn't mean a damn thing, is this
caper must have been pretty well planned, right? It has been spec-
ulated the hijacker must have had someone waiting to,pick him up.
parachuting is a fast way to come dowm, but not too accurate. If
our man jumped in cowlitz county, chances are he had a rough time of it.
(I know the area) I'd be willing to bet that if he jumped in the
area betweem Woodland and Portland, it was probably over one of the
few islands in the. Columbia River near the Portland Airport.
a couple of them are big enough to hit and uninhabited, too. Then
he could leave quietly by boat.
I really dontt know why I'm writing this except I have nothing
better to do at the moment. You guys probably have already thought of
all these things, anyway. Oh well, this can be your daily crakpot
letter for whichever day it comes on. ‘
