FD-350 (Rev. 7-16-63) of (Mount Clipping i in Space Below) @ Hijac! ijacker’ s Note of Thanks? United Press International A note from “D. B. Coop- ‘er” reading, ‘‘Thanks for hospitality,” was turned over to the FBI yesterday on the chance it was sent by the parachuting airline hi- jacker who got away with $200,000 ransom last week. The note, with printed , Words pasted to a piece of paper, was received hy Reno Newspapers, Inc. It was addressed in light hand-printed pencil to ‘Reno Newspaper, Reno, Nev.,” and postmarked Oakdale, Calif.. a small town southeast of Stockton. It read: “Attention. Thanks for hospitality. Was in a rut, D. B. Cooper.” “D. B. Cooper? was the name given by the swarthy man who hijacked a North- west Airlines 727 jetliner Wednesday, collected $200.000 ransom, and then escaped by parachute while the plane was ising fram Seattle to Reno. “Cooper,” a name the FBI said is probably an alias, caught the fancy of some people for the darin: nature of his crime and for its apparent success tu ‘‘beating the system.” FBI agents—not charmed at all by the hijacker’s c¢.- per — continued then dogged search yesterday in , a 15- square-mile area around Woodland, in Clark County, where they think he came down after leaping from the plane. Tom Manning, the agent in charge, suggested the hi- jacker may be marooned in the rugged Cascade foot- hills with a broken leg. But some local law offi- cers frankly admit, off the record, that they think he’s sitting in a hotel in Mexico with the loot. Others promote the theo- ry, “The damn fool proba S bly killed himself and FA) about business as usual. One policeman at Wood- 4 land said confidently: “Come next deer season rtsome hunter will find him.” y’ (Indicate page, name of newspaper, city and state.) Pp.
