MANNING habe JT SUBJECT: NORJAK On 5/25/72 SA contacted the writer and advised that of the Portland PD had been in the Lake & vised that he has used i icinity and note at the nig @ a @ had reported driving on the Lewis River Road afid observing a sudden bright flash at the time the hijacker is thought to have bailed This matter was resolved by their interview according to which should be in Seattle file. HoweverL____Jstated that on 5/24/72 when he was at Lake Merwin he saw buzzards circling over an inaccessible area and gave the following directions to that location. % miles from the Speelyai Bay road on the road to Cougar, Washington (lewis River | b6 Road) there is a 2 x & stake in the ground on the left side of b7c the road with the numeral 34 printed thereon. Opposite this stake on the right side of the road, a short distance from the Lewis River Road, is the ravine where the buzzards were circling. A check by[___]with the Multnomah County coroner revealed that if the body of the hijacker had in fact been in that area from November, 1972 due to winter conditions and other factors the remains would ‘still attract birds such as buzzards. LEAD: AtLongview, Washington oo At area described above conduct appropriate investigation to determine location and if possible reasons for buzzards circling the area.
