Army, Fort Lewis, Washington, telephonically b7c contacted this office with respect to claims being processed through his office ims by certain individuals including for compensation growing out of damage to their propérty incurred during the search conducted by elements of the 3rd Armored Calvary Division. [ _|speciticatiy asked if per chance the money b6 paid as the ransom in the Northwest hijacking case was bic furnished by the Government. He _was informed the money was paid by Northwest Airlines. was endeavoring to find some basis on which a payment for the claim could be authorized but since it was not Government money he advised _ the claim probably will not be authorized over his signature but will be passed up to a higher authority with the expectation that the claim will be paid. [___Jexpiained that he had just returned from bé a tour in Vietnam and had been assigned to the bic and after making inquiry concerning the search learned it was authorized by someone at the Pentagon and since he cannot pass on the claim it will be approved at a higher level.
