And, as the world learned to its bitter cost, what is bad for the Jews is bad for the majority of people everywhere. What began in Munich as crackpot anti-Semitiem ended with the slaughter of 35,000,000 people.® In part, the brochure states, "Who are these ten men who are being persecuted? Some are Jews, some Catholics and Protestants. Yet, it is a coincidence that every one of these Americans has either written, produced, directed or acted in motion pictures that attacked racism, and honorably pictured minorities as human beings deserving equal rights and equal consi- deration.*® After discussing some of the screen credits of the ten witnesses, the brochure contimes, "When SAMUELXQRNITZ GEE tried to raise the question of anti-Semitism, many newspapers claimed that Mr. ORNITZ dragged this question into the hearings, but three weeks later Representative RANKIN 'Gragged it out into the open. On November 24, 1947, when asking Congress to indict the ten Hollywood liberal artists, he read a list of names of actors and actresses who had protested the action of the Thomas-Rankin Comittee. He said, ‘I want to read you some of these mames; JUNEAUAVOC ~ her real name is : POVICK; DANNY-KAYE - his real name DAVID DANIKErKAMINSKY. Another one is £& 3" and he went down the line with EDWARD G GeROBINSON and - Later, the following sentence appears: ‘Did the Thomas Committee attack these men because of their political acts? Of course. But, these political acts are acts of tolerance, of concern for the welfare of the people, of progressive thought. These are not acts of subversion." The brochure cites THOMAS-“MANN who, speaking of the Committee's methods, said, "That's how it ‘gtartéd in Germany. What followed was Fascism and what followed Fascism was wari*
