Room —_ tne . - This television program which is presented from 9:30 to 10:30 p. m, was monitored by a Special Agent of the Crime Research Section. The story line involved "Legs" Diamond and his involvement with a narcotics ring which included "Dutch" Schlutz, "Lucky" Luciano, “Big Bill" Sweeney and Oscar Benjamin. y OBSERVATIONS: | - | Ce, a ‘The story dealt exclusively with narcotics, involving jurisdiction of the Treasury Department and Customs Bureau. No mention was made of the FBI and there was nothing in the story to give the impression that the FBI was involved. The tactics of Ness followed the usual pattern in the program of disregard for proper legal procedures and protection of the rights of the accused, | The most lasting impression of the program was one of violence with brutal murders and "slapping around" of women. In one scene "Legs" Diamond nurdered a minor hoodlum by placing a double barreled sawed-off shotgun against . his chest and pulling the triggers. The climax was an almost "nick éf time" _ arrival of Ness and his associates who administered y dustice” in a& blazing gun battle. - RECOMMENDATION: None. For information.
