A letterhead of the Conference on Peaceful Alternatives to the Atlantic
Pact, dated August 21, 1949, lists the name of Dr. W. BE. B. DuBois as having signed
an Open Letter of the organization, addressed to Senators and Congressmen, urging
defeat of Presidert Truman's arms program; he answered a questionnaire of the
Comittee for a Democratic Far Eastern Policy in favor of recognition of Chinese
Communist government, as shown in Far Bast Spotlight for December 194.9 ~ January
1950 (page 23).
The Conference for Peaceful Alternatives. . . was cited as a meating
called by the Daily Worker in July 1949, to be held in Washington, D. C., and as
having been instigated by "Communists in the United States (who) did their part in
the Moscow campaign” (Committee on Un-American Activities in Report 378 on the
Communist "Peace" Offensive dated April 1, 1951). The Committee for @ Democratic
Far eastern Policy has been cited as Communist by the Attorney General (press
release of April 27, 19h9).
4 paze of signatures from the Golden Book of American Friendship with the
Soviet Union, “sponsored by american Friends of the Soviet Union, and signed by
hundreds of thousands of Americans, was published in the November 1937 issue of
Soviet Russia Today (page 79); the Golden book was to be presented to President
falinin at the Twentieth Anniversary Celebration. The page carried the titles
"I hereby inscribe my name in greeting to the people of the Soviet Union on the
20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Soviet Republic” and a facsimile of
the name, W. E. B. DuBois, appeared on that page.
The Golden Book. . . was cited as a "Canmunist enterprise" signed by
“hundreds of well-known Communists and fellow travelers" (Special Committee on
Un-American Activities in Report 1311 of March 29, 19b)).
A letterhead of the New York Committee to Win the Peace, dated Jpne 1,
i9h6, contains the name of W. =. Be DuBois in a list of New York Committee Members,
The National Comrittee to Win the Peace, with which the New York Committee is
affiliated, was cited as subversive and Communist by the U. S. attorney General
(press releases of Dacember 4, 1947 and September 21, 198),
Dr. DuBois sponsored a petition of the American Council for a Democratic
Greece, as disclosed by the Daily People's World of Auguat 23, 1948 (page 2); he
signed a statement of the same organization, condemning the Greek goverment, as
reported in the Daiiy Yorker of September 2, 1948 (page 7). The American Council
for a Democratic Greece has been cited as subversive and Communist, an orgenization
formerly know as ti. Gicca-Anerican Council (Attorney General of the United States
in press releases cf June 1 and Saptember 21, 1948).
Dr. DuBois was a sponsor of a conference of the hational Council of the
Arts, Sciences and Professions, Octover 9-10, 1948, as shown in a leaflet entitled
"To Safeguard These Hights. . .," published by the Bureau ef Academic Freedum of
the National Council; a letterhead of the National Council (received for files
January 1949} named him as a Member-at-Large of that organization; he was named as
Vice Chairman of the group on the leaflet, "Policy and Program Adopted by the
National Convention, 1950"; a letterhead of the same organization's Southern Cali-~
fornia Chapter, dated April 24, 1950, lists him as a Menber-at-Large of the National
