In conctusion EM iatoa again that he did not consider . any of the information whic d furnished as reflecting adversely on . appointee's loyalty to the United States. He stated he was such an indiv- idualist that if he felt a particular way he would be the first individual to be on a soap box in the middle of town expressing his feelings in that respect. He stated that while appointee campus he was not asso=- ciated in anyway with other students =n gs thought were menbers of the Commnist Party. He stated appointee was just an individualist who had his own way of doing things which happened not to be the way the average person would do it. Pp y in the creative writing field. He pointed out that he received a Fulbri cht scholarship and went to Scotland during the year 1951-52. He also pointed out that appointee had written a story which if finished would be worthy of publication. stated that appointee was indiscreet in his individualism concerning the campus literary publication "The stated that he was not concernéd over this incident 1t right into what a young promi sing literary indiv~ idualist might do in campus activities. in regar Thunderbird." He stated that the novel appointee wrote was the story of one man who tries to live several lives and consequently fails to achieve any genuine kind of life at all. He stated the theme as expressed by appointee is de- ceptive and betrayal and fraud with variations. The end is an ironic and melodramatic death for the hero in the wilderness maze symbolic of the futile, confused, contradictory, barren waste he has made of his om life. stated that thse are appointee! s words as regards the theme and the end of his novel. He described the matn character of the novel as extremely repulsive. He stated, however, that he did not feel that the novel was any reflection of appointee's feelings in one mamer or another. advised that it has come to his attention that appointee and his wife had separated since they went to Scotland in 1951. He informed that he did not know of any reason for this. .:.:.-: that he has no information that reflects adversely on the loyaity of appointee to the United States. He stated that he is an individualist which many people will not understand but he has no information that would indicate disloyalty in any mamer.- - B -
