The report, in reviewing activities of the American Youth for Democracy, reflected that the “Tribute to Fats Waller" held at Carnegie Hall, New York, New York, in April, 1944, had been sponsored by the American Youth for Democracy. The report stated that the meeting had turned into a "tremendous, spontaneous demonstra- tion of inter-racial unity." Committee," which reflected that bandmaster-composer Duke Ellington was a menber of the executive board of the Hollywood Democratic Committee. ~~ The report of the California Comittee on Un-American Activities - in 1948 described the Hollywood Democratic Committee as a communist front organized in 1942 — (100-138754-A) . . . On January 2, 1946, the "Daily Worker" contained an article captioned "Yugoslav Relief Opens 1946 Drive."
