ACTIVITIES OF THE WASHINGTON COMMITTEE OF THE HiGHL:NDER FOLK SCHOOL:
The following information was obtained from a pub-
lication put out by the Highlander Folk School quoting newspaper articles
appearing in the Washington Times Herald, the Washington News, and the
Washington Star under date of May 11, igh2s .
‘The first big event in the celebration of Highlander's
Tenth Anniversary was a concert by PAUL ROBESON given at Riverside Stadium
on tay 10, 1942 sponsored by Highlander's Washington Committee for benefit
of the Highlander Folk School, Monteagle, Tennessez. The concert had an
underlying note of patriotism and contained such songs as "The Bill of
Rignts," a song of the Soviet Red Army and another from workers in a German
concentratéon camp. ROBESON sang in Russian, German, and Hebrew, as well
as English. Washington sponsors for the {OBESON concert included:
