RE: PEACE CONFERENCE - BELGRADE, YUGOSLAVIA wed TY ao AA i ce , SEPTiMBER OR OCTOBER, 1951 The following infcrmation was obtained from a confidential t of mown reliability. informant iability. Source g@vised that the Yugoslavian Ambassador VIADIWIR POVIC and ALES’.BLER, Yugoslevian UN Representative, have been - " attempting to pe uade prominent American citizens to attend the forthcoming Peace Conference to be held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, during Septenber or October, 1951, ae. Beri ote & ~on as Among the people who have consented to attend this con- oo ference is Yrs, ELEANOR,RUUSEVELT, She has consented to go to Yugoslavia only if the State Department spproves and furthernore the conference must not commence before October 25, 1951. Source advised pe that Ambassador POPUVIC has assured BERLE that State Department oo approval of Mrs. ROOSHVELT's trip is guaranteed, Tentative plans were made for Mrs. ROOSEVELT to spend about one week in Yugoslavia end then she was to proceed to Paris for the General Assembly Session to be held November 6, 1951. Tha above mentioned n postponement o of the convertion to be held in Belgrade, as requested by Mrs. RUUSEVELT was considered advantageous by PUPUVIC and BEBLER as it would not only permit Mrse ROOSEVELT'g presence at the convention but it would also give Belgrade more time to make the necessary arrangement.
