sixteenth floor of that hotel. Mr. GREATHOUSE advieed that he consulted his
attorneys and wes told that there were no legal grounds upon which be could
cancel the contract without incurring a definite liability for breach of
contracte .

with several ticketsa to the October 5 meeting and attended the secting personally.
Informant reported that during this seeting SMITH kept eaying, "Believe ae, I
know," Many of SMITH's statements were general in nature and he attempted to
convince the audience by merely making the above statement. SMITH advised the
audience of approximately 350 persons that the Warner Brothers in Hollywood
were great Communists, SMITH told the audience that he did not want thea to
read between the lines but that instead they should read between the lies,
SMITH introduced Rev. WESLEY ad sMrre, ‘whose nage was thought by
this Informant to be SQUIBB and this individual presented what appeared to
be a memorized talk, Then subject SMITH spoke againe SMITH gentioned a
young man by the name of DOBBS who went to Russia and attended a Government
school where he learned all about Communism. When he returned to this country
he was invited to lunch by ELEANOR ROOSEVELT. ‘Later he married a girl] who wa
not a member of the Comaunist Partye Today this young man is said to be head
of the "Youth for Christ Movement”. SMITH said at first he wes skeptical
of DOBBS but now he knows that DOBBS is okay.
This Informant advised that SMITH gave a very rambling talk and
stated that he thought we should have some war crime triale bere in Americée
A pemphlet entitled, "Th plant was distributed at the meeting ami purporte
to be prepared by the PostWar Recovery Commission, This pamphlet is furnished
none is being furnished the Detroit office.
According to fhe Infornants present, SMITH geve no indication
as to when he might return to Saint Louis. Verious items of literature
furnished by the Informant which are not being forwarded to the Bureau of
Detroit, will be retained in the Saint Louis file,
