that Mrs “ROOSEVELT was one of the patrons of the Musical Comedy being staged
for the benefit of subject organization, Other patrons included Senators
DENNIS CHAVEZ, who introduced the F.E.P.C. Measure, and ARTHUR-CAPPER;
Congresswonen "MARY Te o JORTON, ELTLY T,DCUGLAS, and HELEN G. DOUGLAS; and
Gongressmen WILLIAM pe. DAWSON and J j POWELL.
Confidential Informant Tel advised that on February 27, 1945
& delegation arrived in Washington, D. Ce. from Minnesota. Tnis delegation
eama in cormection with the F.E.P.C. Bill and the delegation was sponsored
by s.bject organizatione Further, Tel advised that another delegation from
Illinois arrived in Washington, D. Ce on March 1, 1945 in connection with
the same matter.
In the Was):ington Afrominerican on March 3, 1945 there appeared
a picture of the members of the F.E.P.C. Delegation from Ilinnesota, It was
stuied that members of this delegation came from Finn@polis and St. Paul,
Minnesota, and that on February 27, 1945 they visited their conrressmen
avi senators in “ashington, D. ©. to urge support of legislation for establish-
nent of @ Permanent F.E.P.C. Most of the members of this delegation were
colored,
Confidential Informant T=2 advised that beginning on February
27, 1945 delegates would arrive in Washington, D. C, from New York, New Jersey,
Fennsylvania, and Illinois, ani possibly from some other states, for the
pirpose of individual emtact with Senators and Representatives te gain
their support for passage of Permanent F.E.P.C. Legislation. These contacts
Will be made by menbers of the delegations as individual citizens and no
rallies or denonstrations jn Washington, De Ce are anticipated.
Informant Tx2 further advised that-the headquarters for these
delagations will be at the home of Mra, “HEDOE'AN, Executive Secretary
of subject organizations. However, Krs. HEDOMAN has been on @ speaking tour
throughout New York and New England for the purpose of securing additional
local support for the legislation.
Teal advised that currently the National Council for a Permanent
F.E.PoCe is preparing for the Senate Hearings on the Taft Bill, and is mistering
its forces to defeat this bill, Numerous delegations from time to time will
be coming to Washington, D. Ce to state their views and those of the constituents
‘of various congresgmene The next delegation will arrive simltaneously with
the openings of the Senate Hearings on March 12, 1945, This delegation will
be from petroit, Michigan unter the leadership of Reverend HORAC WHITE. It
will have broad representation.
