Writing in the publication Cahiers du Communisme and the points of the hidden, secret Foster letter, Duclos attack Browder for his “revisionism” and for his direction of the American Communist Party. The arrival of the attack in New York caused an unprecedent- ed furor among the rank and file of the Communists, until then unaware of the Foster letter. Browder’s first decision was to sit on the Duclos attack, swait- ing more direct word on the change in policy. But its publication by the New York World Telegram, whose blond, chunky Wolt- man is a nemesis of the Communists, forced his hand. - At that point, Browder threw in the sponge. He printed the Duclos at in the Daily Worker, of which he Was editor, te- gether with an apologetic foreword in which he admitted that the time for » change in policy had come. eee = Ves. Then he called a meeting of the national board to acquaint m with his decision.
