Ono thing though, the Dally Worker was sold in the news stand in the hotel lobby of the Hotel Stevens where the conv- ention was held and no one otjected to it being sold there and many delegates bought it dailysesso.aThe climax of the convention cane on Wednesday after- noon, it epened on Yonday morning. The Convention was quiet Yonday, Tuesday and unt!1 2 P.M. ednesday afternoon which was set aside for a special order of business =~ the [.I.0. program for Political Action and Philip Murray introduced Sidnew Hillman on the resolution. The entire convention got up and let locse and repeated this again several minutes later when Hillman praised “urray, ' It was a demonstration against the bigoted, red- baiting attacks on Sidney Hillman during the recent election campaignescrce They have a big job to carry on. This was a victory convention of the C.I.0. The speakers at the convention spoke with modesty of the activities of the (1.9.8. Murray, Hillman and the other speakers were not looking for credit they wanted all to get together and do their share for more acconplishments in the future.....There were two large prese tables at the convention...on previous conventi-ns the newspapers relied on the United Press, the Associate Press and other press services, this time scores of papers sent their correspondents to the convention for a first hand report...... "The attitude of the rest of the country was felt in the array of zy) 7serses...The A.F.L. meets twice as lonr as the C.I.0. and accomplishes one quarter as much...in New Orleans and Tampa where delegates are mostly ~* to see the sights. \ | 4 "This time there was a long list of apeakers at the Get. O.0 05 these people asked to speak and wanted ;to speak, they were Vice President Wallace, _ Ti+anor} Roosevelt, Brig. ceneral | Sone le, Bishop/ Shield, Catholic of vernordPinchdtof Pennsylvania, Mayor.. Latuardia, Vayor| Kelly of thicago and Blgene| rer, Publisher of the ‘washington Post.| The resolutions of the convention were published in the convention proceedings and we published a four page supplement a week ago in the Daily Worker, read them and study them, they are written with feeling and conviction and they have a progran not only for the C,7.0. but for all the people in this country..e...resolutions on the 60 million jobs in the pont-war period; allied labor unity; discrimination of negro soldiers in ‘hoe armed forces, and anti-semitism, etcetera and especially on international molicy calling for complete elimination of fascism in every single country also against the activities of the Churchill government in Greece.s.-cscecece ® Philip Murray has stood out st a1 conventions, in the -atb ones his accomplishment was in uniting the different trends and harmonizing the different groups....this time it was umecessary....eHis words againet. those people in the C.J.0. who give lip service for the no-strike pledge are important and his talk on negro discrimination = 'the C,I.0. is your home and refuge and here you will find equality...» ‘struck es certain chord...... millions of negro people heard this message...
