On February 13, 1942, the Washington Field Office by letter advrie
that was not on the payroll of the Treasury Departzent and that bi

However, reported to the Office of the Chief of Educational Activ-
itiee DMrision at the U. &. Treasury Departuent every day for conference
purposes, -

On June 25, 1942, the Yashington Field Office further advised that
Speciel Agent Benry H, Tranklin interviewed Kr, Charles A. Bell, Adzninistra-
tive Officer, Treasury Department, relative to ™ | ~My, Bell sade
available a file on which indicated that bie services had been ter-
minated after a special investigation by the Treasury Department which ia-
Gicated was closely connected with the American Touth Congress,
acd other so-called front organisations. Further, 1¢ showed that |
_ had demonstrated a tendency for following the Ssig-sag Communist Party line.®
Further perusal of the Treasury Department reports indicated that
case was somewhat complicated by the fact that © “ae
