1956 FACTS .
© The 1956 Corvette was the first mayor Corvette body redesign. With the
exception of tha dash which remained basically intact. the 1956 was visually
new. It was given roll-up windows with opuonal power assists. external door
handles and locks, exposed headughts with chrome surround bezels (except
very early models which were panied), and a new sculptured sade Cove
treatment.
© 1956 was the first year for a factory opuonal hardtop. The anodized
neauer trun made it uaique to Une year. On some 1956's, the anodized trun is
Pamted top color.
© The passenger seat in the 1956 model can be adjusted, the first Corvette
with this feature.
© Seat belts were available for the first une in 1956. These were not factory
options, but could be purchased through dealers a8 a Kit. The belts were grey
nylon with chrome-plated quick release buckles.
© The fresh air heater which heated outside “fresh” air (as opposed to draw-
ing ar {fom the car's interior and reheating it) was first used in the 1956
model. But very eafly production 1956 models sti have the recirculaung
_ 1953-1955 cype.
