that Fromm was a member of the Socialist Party~Social
Democratic Federation.

1965, on pege & set-forth, a letter to "Te New York
Times" dated November 16, 1965, from Edward P. Gottlieb,
Chairman, War Resisters League. The letter entitled
"Ruling on Communists” with the subtitle "To the
Editor" stated: "Those of us who have argued for the |
American way of life with Communists here or in personal
confrontation in Moscow must take new heart with the
€~to-0 registration decision of the Supreme Court ané
your own unqualified approval (editorial Noverber 16},
AS a confirmed pacifist, I am joyful over this victory,
non-violent and spiritual in the cold war, Americans
everywhere, will find it ever so much easier to represent
their country as a bulwark of freedom. The response
they receive will be measurably favorabie to the pro-
motion of the democratic process everywhere. The
relative degree of threat of the Communist Party in
America or abroad ought not to vitiate our own dedication
to the principles which we traditionally believe are

The December 24, 1962, issue of "New America", self
cescribed as the official publication of the Socialist
Party-Social Democratic Federat on (sP-gpF contained an
article which stated, "Michae ringtén, (editor of
‘New America’, leaves for.Europe the first of thé-year.
The author 6f-'The Other America! is going overseas to
‘work on a new book. While Harrington can no longer
serve as editor of 'New America’ he will continue as
a léading contributor." . 7
