S. House of Representatives, revealed that Ilya Ehrenburg, the Kremlin's leading ~ peace propagandist, had told him that Powers would face trial as a spy but receive only a nominal prison sentence. At a press conference on June 14 the wife of the U-2 pilot, Mrs. Powers, allowed her medical advisor to reveal that in a letter dated May 31, her husband wrote that a few hours after his capture he was taken to Moscow and then went on a tour of the city which he described as "beautiful." He has books to read and a small yard in which to exercise. More recently the Soviets have agreed to give Mr. Powers, Sr., a | visa to visit his son and the Kremlin has since announced that Captain Powers will stand trial in August, 1960, and that the trial will be open to members of the public; to foreign newspapermen and even foreign | tourists will be able to attend.
