SE 174-1319 Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; United States Secret Service; United States Attorney. te send tbe The Seattle Division was not notified of this bombing matter until October 17, 1977, by the King County Police Department, Seattle, Washington, inasmuch as it had not been determined that the incident had been perpetrated by a revolutionary group. On October 17, 1977, several agencies received a communique from the George Jackson Brigade which claimed credit for the bombing. ‘ i i ’ Therefore, jurisdiction of this matter was not assumed by the FBI until October 17, 1977. Because of these factors, the initial investigation and crime scene was done by the King County Police Department. The crime scene was conducte y King County Police Department officers who are Redstone Arsenal trained bomb technicians. . a Following captioned bombing, all appropriate Seattle regarding the George Jackson Brigade was obtained. Copies of the George Jackson Brigade communique are contained in this report. a 4 Seattle Division is currently working the George Jackson Brigade (GJB claimed bombings and bank. robberies as a special investigation. RITA DARLENE BROWN, self acclaimed member of the GJB, was apprehended by Seattle Agents on November 4, 1977, and she subsequently pled guilty to charges of armed bank robbery on January 11, 1978, at Portland, Oregon. On February 21, 1978, BROWN appeared in United - S States District Court, Portland, Oregon, and was sentenced on! to custody of the United States Attorney General for a - period of twenty-five years for bank robbery and five years _ for firearms violation.
