It is interesting to note that State Senator Jack Tenney, former Chairman of the California Legislature's Un-American activities Committee, was_a charter member of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Lawyers' Guild. He sought law business for his firm, Tenney & Halva, by advertising in the National Lawyers' Guild Quarterly magazine. Pat Brown resigned from the Guild when it became clear that the Guild's national policies conflicted with his own views. Other resignations followed. In nis letter of resignation, District Attorney Brown stated his disagreement with Guild policy in these words: "It is my belief that the greatest problem facing us today is the prevention of another war.
