I would like to refer to my letter of September 7, 1954, and your reply of eptember 9, 1954, concerning public critiatem of t uniform crime reporting program by Attorney General Edmund G. Brow of California. You indicated you would like to be advised of the results of our contact with Attorney General Brown. Our Spectal Agent in Charge at San Franc isco called on Attorney General Brow on September 14, 1954, and discussed this matter frankly with hin. The Attorne General explained that he did not intend for his letter to the press to be published and regrettéd his choice of worde in refer- ring to the uniform crime reporting program. He waa considerably eurprised to learn of the ‘training afforded the Nattonal Academy graduates in uniform orime reporting and the fact that agents of the FBI are available to aseiet in thia program as needed.
