trunk compartment and came downtown in St. Louis in the taxi looking
for a luggage store. They finally found a store which was not yet open
but which he believed would open soon as it was near 9:00 a.m. They,
as wall as the taxi driver, went to a nearby bar and had two or three
drinks. HALL left them in tha bar and went te the ‘luggage Place which
was open by that time and purchased the two metal suitcases, which were
found at the time of his arreat. He said the purpose of his obtaining the
suitcases was to transfer the money to them from the duffelbag. He
carried both the empty suitcases to the taxi, then went into the bar and
came out with HEADY and the driver, the latter of whom placed the me
suitcases in the trunk. They then returned to the bar where they left the
rented Ford and dismissed the cab driver. They then drove ip the rented
car to an alley in St. Louis where they transferred the money from the
duffel bag to the two sujtcases. He recalled that the rope around the top
of the duffel bag was tied so tight that it was necessary for him to out
it with his «nife. This leads him to believe that he had not opened the
duffel bag at any previoys time inasmoch aa it would have been necessary
for him to have out the rope at such previous time, and even if he had
succeeded in untieing tty he would not have tied it. back in such a hard

that a man and woman had tried to get by in a car and that it had been |
necessary for him to move one of the suitcases, He put the duffel bag in -
a garbage can in the ianusdiate vicinity of where the money was trans-
