Menorandum to Hr. Gebhardt Re: HEARNAP ; and that the computer wili-never be abie-to-repiace-the- i investigator. He stated that the more input he has to ; put into the computer the more definite he can become in his conclusions. Dr. Niron stated that his research is of a relatively recent origin and the more work he does the more the computer tells him. He said that if it came to fons time when there was a white line and the SLA was on one side and the FBI on. the other side, he felt. that a show of force by the FBI would result in bloodshed. The SLA would consider this as a means of committing suicide. He felt that talk and diplomacy would be better as it was. his opinion that although the SLA apparently has a great hatred for the FBI the majority of them had never even — talke@ to an FBI Agent. Dr. Miron stressed that at this point this was just theory on his part and this would be the time when a decision would have to be made and the decision would be based on the experience and not the computer. By separate memorandum, all in attendance at the briefing have been requested to furnish a critique to the General Investigative Division. ACTION: This is for information. It is to be noted that this briefing was prior to the time that the information on the last tape was made available to the effect that Patricia Hearst had joined the SLA.
