It is used projectively . to rationalize and displace his own personal failings onto others. However, ae . like the syntactical function words (e. 9. , the, that, etc.) among which it ranks, this defense mechanism has Jost most of its effectiveness and meaning. _ The defense could be utterly shattered if his projections were to be dis- -" avowed by one of those onto whom he seeks to displace his guilt. There is an underlying strain of magic in the communique in the form of _ misapprehensions of what is real, the nature of power and particularly in the form of a numerological occultism. There is a conflict between the "even", the just, and the "odd", the enemy.
