_ Honorable Alen Cranston - = ae ee = wo. The house at 1486 B4th Street, Los Angeles, where the suspects were located was completely destroyed by fire. .. The Los Angeles Fire Department was available but could not move into the area mitil the shooting stopped. The ahocting did not cease until the house was compietely in flames. Asa result of the burning of this house and the etart the fire had prior to the Los Angeles Fire Department's .. being able to take any action, the houses on either side and to the rear of this house actually did catch fire but the fires were immediately extinguished by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The exact damage to these homes because of the ffre ts not known. As to any other damage, several automobiles in the area have bullet holes in them and several of the homes in the area have bullet marks. This was a most regrettable incident, particularly fn view of the loss of lives involved; but, as you can appreciate, the action taken by the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI was action that was mandatory under the circumstances _ én the fulfillment of our responsibilities to the citizens of | this country and the State of California.
