Hearst;weresident of San Francisca@mmexaminer «°°. Newspaper, was kidnaped at gunpoint from her Berkeley, con? California, apartment evening 2/4/74. CIE cite Editor, Los Angeles Herald Examiner, a major Los Angeles call at approximately 7:17 p.m., 2/5/74, from anonymous caller who demanded $50,000 in small bills in unbreak- able bag. Caller also requested Cessna 150 aircraft at disposal afternoon of 2/6/74, and indicated City Editor would be contacted again afternoon 2/6/74. Our Los Angeles Office will cover anticipated tele- phone call and effort will be made to determine whether caller is kidnaper or if related attempt to extort money. | By subsequent teletype, San Francisco Office advises victim's father interposes no objection to Los Angeles Office covering anticipated contact by anonymous caller to determine whether or not caller is legitimate kidnaper. Victim's family posed several questions be asked victim by kidnaper to ascertain whether or not victim is in his possession.
