This morning I briefed Mr. Kelley on the Director See’y — latest developments concerning the kidnaping of Patricia . Campbell Hearst. LM On February 12, 1974, a second letter from the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) for Randolph Hearst, father of victim, was delivered to Berkeley Radio Station KPFA. A tape cassette accompanied this letter and contained the voice of what appears to be a Negro male identifying himself as "Cinque," a person with two children, plus the voice of a young girl identified by relatives as that of the victim. I pointed out to Mr. Kelley in the investigation . entitled "Donald David DeFreeze, aka - Fugitive, UFAP - Escape;\\ Possessing a Homemade Bomb; Receiving Stolen Property; Robbery; \ _/ Assault with Force," DeFreeze, who is known to be affiliated \ with the SLA, is known as "Cingue." I further advised i Mr. Kelley that records indicate DeFreeze actually has three children and three stepchildren. Investigation is continuing to further attempt to identify the male voice on the tape as being that of DeFreeze. DeFreeze and aprerrer a a known SLA affiliate and for whom we have a UFAC warrant, are considered prime ‘suspects in this case. I advised Mr. Kelley that witnesses to the kidnaping, when shown photographs of DeFreeze and to date have been unable to either identify or eliminate them as being two of the kidnapers.
