He “attempted to sound calm and “flippant” during his call to his Sister. Upon arriving at the house, he found his sister . reading. BENENSON went into the bathroom and cut the remaining cloth from his neck with scissors he found in the medicine cabinet. Except for a swollen upper lip he discovered no noticeable marks or bruises on his body. Ue thereafter conversed in casual con- versation with his sister for a short time then went to sleep on the living room couch where he spent the night. He wore no underwear. After eating breakfast, he set out for downtown Berkeley carrying his jogging clothes .and Army-type jacket in a plastic bag which he borrowed from his sister. Tey.
