SUBJECT: " HEARNAP | Enclosed for the FBI Laboratory is (1) a cellophane envelope containing a white envelope marked "KQED" and a one page letter entitled "Open Letter to the Media", (2) a cellophane envelope containing a cassette, and (3) a Photostat of the envelope and letter. Items 1 and 2 were received from carps carrecd r qa: 2/22/74, and had been discovereca™tn the restroor oster's restaurant at 625 Mission Street, Szn Francisco. ve 7 , (4) is a cellophane envelope containing another ‘, y “Open Letter to the Media” that was delivered to the SAC's el office by messenger by KQED on 2/22/74. For the information of the Laboratory, the cassette is almost word for word identical to “Open Letter to the Media" and the items appear to have come from the group who directed communiques to the media on 2/20 last, claiming they were dissidents of the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA). The FBI Laboratory is requested to make handwriting and typewriting , examination of these items furnishing any information available concerning watermarks and indented writing.
