I TOLD BROWNING THAT I COULD SEE NO REASON FOR SUCH INFORMATION BEING FURNISHED TO THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL IN THE ABSENCE OF INFORMATION INDICATING AN EXTREME NEED TO KNOW. BROWNING SAID THIS WAS A PROTOCOL MATTER AS FAR AS HE WAS CONCERNED, AND I REPLIED THAT PROTOCOL IS NO BASIS FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF FBI INFORMATION TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF CALIFORNIA, WHO IS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL. . RESULTS OF OUR INVESTIGATION HAVE BEEW FURNISHED TO THE DISTRICT . e ATTORNEYS OF ALAMEDA AND CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES, WHO ARE VITALLY 3 INVOLVED IN THE PROSECUTION OF THIS CASE, AS WELL AS THE CHIEFS OF POLICE IN OAKLAND, BERKELEY, AND SAN FRANCISCO, ON A STRICTLY c NEED-TO-KNOW BASIS.
