Director instructed this matter be discussed again with Attorney General Saxbe. AX, On 3-14-74 I did discuss the situation with the Attorney General * _ in his office, at which time Mr, Saxbe indicated that Browning had been in ~ contact with them, Attorney General stated that he understood "Charlie's" : . problem and point of view, but that Attorney General felt it would be best if | - SAC could in some way placate Younger since at some point in the future . Younger, being a politician, may criticize the FBI for not allowing Younger , to assist in solution of this case. Attorney General stated you never know —. when something is going to happen in an investigative situation and he didn't , want to give Younger the opportunity to come back and beat us over the head * with it for the above reasons. \ Attorney General] stated that it was his desire that SAC advise .., USA Browning that SAC is establishing liaison with Younger regarding this Q request to determine exactly what and why Younger feels he needs the investigative information and that thereafter SAC would work out necessary details to provide Younger with some data. Attorney General stated that he did not feel that SAC should furnish data to Younger which would be detrimental to the investigation but he did feel that FBI, San Francisco, could give him something which would make him feei © part of the effort out there. RECOMMENDATION: That the above information and desires of the Attorney .
