eadstamp indicating commercial manufacture by the Frontier
artridge Company, Grand Island, Nebraska. Specimen Q202
as been loaded with a copper-jacketed, soft point bullet.
The nose of the bullet portion of the 0202 cartridge has also
been hollowed out. Paraffin wax was found in the nose of this
cartridge. No cyanide was identified beneath the wax. Specimen
0202 bears a "W-W 30 Carbine” headstamp indicating commercial
manufacture by Winchester-Western, East Alton, Illinois. The
0203 cartridge has been loaded with a copper-jacketed bullet.
The "LC 68" headstamp on specimen Q203 indicates it was originally
manufactured for military use by the Lake City Ordnance Plant.
It is noted that the Frontier Cartridge Company is a
Givision of Rornady Marufacturing Company. Frontier now uses
new cartridge cases bearing their own headstamp. However, in
the past, cartridges marketed in boxes bearing the Frontier
label have consisted of refurbished once-fired government
cartridse cases loaded with Hornady covper-jacketed, soft
point bullets. Accordingly, cartridge Cases originally
manufactured for military use bearing LC, PC and WCC headstamps
could be purchased in boxes bearing a Frontier label.
Specimens 0205 and Q206 are .30 Carbine caliber cartric: :
which have been loaded with copper-jacketed, soft point bullcts.
The "LC 54" and "LC 4" headstamps:-on these cartridges indicate ;
they were originally manufactured by the Lake City Ordnance Plant.
Duc to a lack of sufficient corresponding microscopic, markings,
' specimens 9205 and Q206 could not be associated with the weapons
represented by the other cartridges and cartridge cases from the
abduction and robbery scenes.
The Q7 cartridge case from Siegle's Gun Shop and the
094 through Q99 cartridges found at 5329 Wentworth Street
could not be associated with the cartridges and cartridge cases
recovered at the robbery and abduction scenes.
Specimen Q210 is a .30 caliber copper jacket which
was identified as having been fired from the same weapon as
the 09 bullet fragment embedded in wood from the window of
2607 Benvenue Street at the abduction scene. Specimens .0210
and 09 were fired from a barrel rifled with four lands and
grooves, right twist. —
