Dur their visit in the store one of the em- % a ployees, ANTHONY GyXSHEPARD, observed the white male conceal what i: he believed to be pair of socks under his jacket. AS a result of this act on the part of the unknown white male, SHEPARD and i several other employees attempted to detain this individual as ee _he was leaving the store, A scuffle ensued: which involved three gorse employees, one passerby, the unknown white male, and white female. During the scuffle the unknown white male produced a two inch Colt .38 revolver, Serial Number C58256. He was disarmed and this revolver was retained by the store employees, Pe eo dvised that.a third individual, identity unknown, Tired several volleys in the direction of the employees from what appears to have been an automatic weapon. The shots came from a 1970 Volkswagen van which was parked across ' the street from Mel's Sporting Goods. The store employees hold- ing the couple, released them during the gunfire. Both of the individuals fled, leaving the scene in the Volkswagen bus. During their flight from the scene they abandoned this Volkswaren bus, ‘ commandeering a 1970 Pontiacs, abandoning it, and a short time later commandeered a 1963 Chevrolet Nova station wagon. advised that the following individuals witnessed the above described incident and should be contacted for their details: Inglewood, California File # LOS Angeles 7-1627 eo 5/16/74 zs * batervi ewed on kC/trb/KAR ge roosqy ot: Date dictoted . . a vhs document contains neither recommendationr nor conclusions ofthe FRI.
