The man asked for an extra Large sweatshirt, saying ae
at was for someone else, and placed it on the front counter,
Items purchased after that were Likewise placed on the front
counter,’ Both the man and woman brought items to the counter °
"such as expensive hunting type socks, and a green Army surplus
style cartridge belt. The man then asked if the store had
heavy type shirts and he was subsequently directed to the
proper counter, A short time later, TONY SHEPARD, another em-
ployee in the store, whispered to her that the man had stolen
'@ pair of heavy socks, When the man and woman finished their
shopping and came to the cash register, TONY SHEPARD rang the
items up on the cash register and took their money. PATRICIA
HUETT advised she then placed’ the purchased items ain the
shopping bags, :

Her husband, BILL HUETT, ran out to the sidewalk as
‘did another employee, * GARY MASON, The scuffle continued and
she next heard a volley of gunfire sounding to her like fire-
crackers popping. She remained behind the counter in the
store and after she felt something hit her forehead, she dropped
to the floor behind the counter. Apparently a fragment did
strike her in the head. Finally, she realized TONY SHEPARD was
firing at someone across the street, however, since she was
behind the counter she was not able” to see at. whom he was firing.
Someone yelled out that the red van across the street
belonged to the couple and she ‘subsequently saw that red van
heading east down the parking lot across the street, She
immediately attempted to call the police department, however,
she had to use two different telephones ‘since both were busy
when she initially tried to call, She was finally able to get
the police dispatcher and told her the people had left in a rea
van and that an employee, TONY SHEPARD, was following the van
