HUET advised fellow employee TONY SHEPHARD succeeded in getting a a handcuff on one of HARRIS' wrists, and employee GARY MASON was attempting to subdue HARRIS’ female companion when ‘they learned HARRIS was armed. HUET succeeded in twisting the gun from HARRIS’ grasp. At that time HUET heard a volley of shots and realized someone was shooting at them. HARRIS and his companion escaped as a result of the shooting. On May 17, 1974, ANTHONY F. SHEPHARD, 11724 Haas Avenue, Hawthorne, California, advised he was working at Mel's Sporting Goods Store the previous day, and had attempted to subdue a male shoplifter and his female accomplice. He identified a photograph of WILLIAM TAYLOR HARRIS as being + identical to the male individual with whom he had struggled, and stated he was 100 per cent sure of this identification. These individuals escaped in a red and white Volkswagen van. On May 16, 1974, Patrolman GEE» «120° Police Department, advised a Colt .38 caliber revolver had been taken from the white male suspected of shoplifting at Mel's Sporting Goods Store. This gun had been purchased on October 13, 1973, by EMILY MONTAGUE HARRIS at Siegle'’s Guns, . Oakland, by EMILY HARRIS. On May 16, 1974, KENNETH CLAUDE PIERRE, 2635 West Imperial, Inglewood, California, advised late that afternoon he and his sister, MARVA LEE DAVIS were driving in his 1970 black vinyl over yellow Pontiac. They were driving south on Ruthelen Street near 115th Street, Los Angeles, when he became aware of a red Volkswagen van which was attempting "9 pass him. PIERRE permitted the van to pass and then noted the van came to a stop. A white male and a white female exited the van and walked toward PIERRE's vehicle. The male ordered PIERRE and his sister out of the Pontiac stating, "I don’t want to kill you". The male then spoke to his female companion stating, "I'm going to kill that son of a bitch". BERRE did not know to whom these remarks referred. The male and female got into PIERRE's Pontiac and the male drove it along side the van. PIERRE then observed one of more pairs of hands pass two pistols and packages from the van to the Pontiac. The male individual was described by PIERRE as being 25 to 27 years old, 5'10" tall, 150 to 160 pounds, with dark brown shoulder length hair and a small goatee.° n- - 18 = _. ox" Plc Cit cnt Pe ee ae ee
