BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION wh 7/31/74 Date of tronscription Mrs wOUG, arifornia, telephone number fur- -- Ci nished the following information: At approximately 7:30 p.m., May 17, 1974, a@ young man and younger girl entered the lobby and asked about renting a room for three persons: She showed them room number 217 and told them she could move in a roll-away bed for the third person, not further identified. The young man said they had a camper van and that he did not want to leave it on the street. She told him that the door to the underground garage was too low to accomodate a van but he could park off the street adjacent to the north wall ‘of the building. The young man then said, "We've got to get this van off the street’. The young man was inspecting the apartment at this time and. she noted that he wrapped a handkerchief around his hand as he adjusted the blinds to check the view from the window. He then said that they = wanted the room only for two er three days. She advised him “that the minimum rental was one week and he said something to the effect that “We will need it for only two or three days". At this point, the young man and the girl went into the bathroom and she coul d not hear all of their conversa=- tion. She did hear him say to the girl,- "We've got to get the van off the street’. The young man then said they would discuss it further an d would let her know. They left indicating they were going to b located about Fe. tte I ap 7 Ce advised that she had been watching live television coverage of the police action concerning the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) members on East 54th Street for several hours just prior to the arrival of above individuals. She advised that their demeanor indicated they were running from something and that she was quite apprehensive during the time they were in the building, though at the moment she did not directly relate these indi- viduals to the SLA.
