The above envelope and letter have been designated by tne FBI Laboratory as Q1933 and Q1934, respectively. Per instructions in letter, Bureau Agents posed as HEARST's representative and receive nunercus telephone calls from an unknown male individual on the evening of Januery 4, 1975, and the early morning of January 5, 1975, in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. Extortion package dropped at site designated but no one picked up Or came near the package and it was eventually retrieved by the FBI. The second letter was received by Mr. KANDOLPH A, HEARST in San Francisco, Californie, on January 10, 1975, etetinn: to the attempted extortion on the evening of January 4, 1975. The letter directed Mr. HEARST to the Cleveland Airport on "the 8th", Since the contact date had passed inthe letter received by Mr. REARST, no action was taken regarding this contact. The second letter was received in an envelope postmarked at Cleveland, Ohio, "on January 6, 1975, and the FBI Laboratory has designated the letter and envelope Q1935 and Q1936, respectively, Subsequently, on February 7, 1975, a Kidnaping occurring in the Cleveland area resulted in the victia e-caping from the kidnaper’s car and the Strongsville Police Department shortly thereafter arrested RICHARD G, KRAVANJA, aka., Rick, Richard Anthony Cravana, and charged him witn Kidnaping. A consent tape was made of the victim's telephone - during the kidnaping and the tape conteins the voice of the male caller directing the victim's father to a contact point, Bureau Agent receiving direct telephone calls from the unknown subject in the HEARST extortion case on Januery 4-5, 1975, listened to the above tape and stated the volce on the tape sounded like the voice of the male “elephoning him on numerous occesions on January 4-5, 1975, . i
