On December 20, 1978, Mr. Cecil McCall, Chaixman
of the U.S. Parcle Cormission, 320 ist Street, N.W., Washington,
D.C., advised representatives of the. FBY that he had received
2 letter on December 19, 1978, réportedly from Req Murphy
of the San Prancisco Examiner. Thi aletter contained
reference to reported informatie On, the activities of Patty
Mearst prior to her kidnapping in* “L974G and made mention of
. rossible ebarrassing consequences “to, authorities if’ she were
released from prison. Mr. McCall advised phe had questioned
the authenticity of thw latter recaune Of its formal nature
and he advisec that. he knows: Nx. Murphy personally and felt that
