ICPRYR = 38 certainly have explained the action to their sisters and brothers, There are few people who would care so little about taking the life of the apparently innocent sister Sally. Some person who had done a lot of time seems the most likely possibility since runy of Popeye's enemies had been crazed by that ex- perience. There are plenty of brothers in Folsom or san .uwentin who are cap- able of committing the murders in that way; ruthless beyond imagination, they might kill twenty innocent people to get to one enemy. There are many lessons to be learned from Popeye's life and one of the most “Tmportant is that a brother or sister who has done a lot of time is not a higher political or revolutionary consciousness. The experience is warping and dementing; you emerge from it no longer sane. These sisters and brothers can never be looked to for leadership, even if they seek such a role, until they have first been made whole by the love and underatanding of their com- rades. Anyone who thinks otherwise, invites tragedy. Popeye had no principled theory and yet we allowed him to dictate tactics; tactics that were based only on anger. If his final speeches sounded like the words of an agent provocateur, it was only that we were coming closer to see- ing the truth; Popeye had been saying the snme things since the day he was relenned from San Quentin in 1970. There was simply no way for the 5S to have turned Popeye into an agent provocateur for he had been one all elong; not for the man, but in service to his own anger. He was already the best of all poss- ible provocateure for he believed every word he naid. Sadly, many brothera and sisters also came to believe. With clear eyes, they looked into the face of the monster that confronts un, and determined to tear him apart with a frontal assoult. llow naive to think that blowing up a building at San Quentin would [or aii s Bt a Marmite ay Eby a oF Si aah seta hee gL e
