Reference Los Angeles letter dated May 29, 1947, to the Bureau.
There has been no information developed.through any available .-
sources to indicate that HANNS EISLER was in attendance at any time during

a witness and advises there was no indication that HANNS EISLER had been in
attendance at any times. It was also determined through inquiry of Mr.
investigator for the House Un-American Activities Committee, that ~
SLER did not appear as a witness on June 16, 1947, as had been pre-
aN viously scheduled; that the particular hearing was not held in view of which
~ no subpoena had been issued for hime
®\ On the evening of July 10, 1947, Supervisor GRANVILLE” —
: of the New York Office telephonically advised that the New York Office had
received instructions from the Bureac to attempt to locate HANNS ELSLER;
that the Bureau was interested in his location inasmuch as Representative
J. PARNDLL THOMAS of the House Committee on Un-American Activities is
desirous of having him served with a subpoena and that the U. S. Marshal
a at Los Angeles had been unable to lecate him. SA GRANVILLE advised that
there is no indication HANNS EISLER was in New York City at the present time;
that he had been there on June 11, 1947, when he made @ speech but that he had
left via plane for the West Coast on that date, SA GRANVILLE suggested that
a further check be made at Washington, D. C., through inquiry of some of the
leading hotels to determine whether HANNS EISLER ud ght be in the City of
