Finally, the basic cause: Pascism declared cruel war ageinst everything advanced, progressive, ageinst all new trends in German msic.- However, the mugicsl life of the country was not entirely arrested, This. “would not be to the advantage of Fascism, ‘Though the agitationel significancs ‘of music is less importent than that of other kinds of art (theater, movies, _ literature), Fascism nevertheless attempts to utilise it for its own purposes, In order to describe concert life in Peascist Germany it ie gufficient to point out that at the present time no outstanding artiste appear on the con- cert stage and youth, isolated from contemporary progressive trends, is actually deprived of the opportunity to study in earnest, ‘The strogzle of the Fasci¥ts’. against genuine music for the masses leads to almost absolute domination by*”” trash (KITSCH) which in its essence seems to be the musical credo of Tascisa, | Sworn Fascist composers diligently cook up "true German" music, Zhe illustrious KITSCH is the best example of this, At the same time these matters occupy them aclves with such respectably‘ business as remodeling and "refining" compositions produced by revolutionary mesicians. At the same time not only our musical. works of emaller form are being shamelessly plagiarized, but also our large compositions, Especially did the Fascist try to produce their own version of | "Vysenei Mery."
