Th Rockefeller Foundation officials, of course, Were innocent victims of Communist wirepulling. Certainly they were not informed that Hanns has served since 1935 as head of the International Music Bureau, connected with the Communist In- ternational, the purpose of which was to spread pro-Soviet alle- giance among musicians, musical critics and composers the world over. He came directly from that position in the Soviet capital to his labors here. ; Shortly after his arrival, Comrade Hanns introduced his “new musical forms” to a secret session of 300 leading Communists and fellow travelers. When a chorus under his direction broke into one of his best-known Red songs, “We Are Ready to Take Over,” com- posed for the Communist International, the audience exploded with enthusiasm. It is an item that assuredly did not appear in his Rockefeller Foundation thesis. Hanns Eisler was quickly introduced to Hollywood, ‘There he got remunerative assignments and simultaneously took over the political direction of the Reds in professional fields. That was his real goal when he landed on our shores; it had been said for some time (and Gerhart Eisler had emphasized it on more than one occa- sion) that a comrade who could command the political respect of the Hollywaod comrades was needed there.
