Special Agents JAMES 7. HAVERTY and ARTHUR R. WAKE attended a rally in the
New Haven Arena on Wednesday, October 8, 1947, at 8130 P.M., sponsored by the PCA \
Connecticut Chapter. Thevattendance mas nearly fifty five hundred persons, who paid .
from sixty five cents to two dollars and fifty cents admission. The purpose of the =.

mend WALLACE for President on a Democratic.or Third Party Ticket, depending on how -.
events developed in 1948. oe
The program of events was opened by the singing of the National Anthem and
then the lights in the Arena were turned out and a voice on the public address ays-
tem introduced each speaker in the darkened auditorium. 4s the speakers mounted
the platform, spotlights were trained on them. The unidentified voice claimed he
was the voice of the PCA. The speakers were -
Professor THOMAS EMERSON, professor of Law at Yale University, who stated
the political aims of the PGA, including the repeal of the TAFT-HARTIZEY bill and
any other legislation unfavorable to the Labor Unions. ;
Dr. ALLAN HICKERSON, head of New Haven State Teachers College, who described
oriefly the history of the PCA in Connecticut, concluding that it was the only pro-
gressive political party in the country at the present tins.
PAUL ROBESON, well known Regro singer eang four songs including "Ol' Man (|.
River" and "Joe Hill", These were eritical of the present social distinctions a
made in this country between the colored race and the white. ROBESON concluded his
appearance by a recitation of the poem called “Freedom Train", which also derided
the racial distinctions drawn between the colored and white persons traveling on
trains in the South. . >
Dr. PRANK KINGDON, co-Chairman of the National PCA, gave a vigorous talk
lasting thirty minutes to introduce HENRY 4. WALLACE, former Vice President, ‘who
was the principal speaker. KEINODGH criticized the present high price levels, the
condition of the National Building Program, the condition of the Jewish question,
particulerly with. regard to Palestine and the establishment of aid for Greece and
Turkey, punotuating each section of his remarks. by the slogan that it was time for
the people to do something about it and to "cams out fighting". KINGDGH stated
that he was against universal military training in the United States ani then made
