concerning the W.P.A. strike in Grundy County in January and February of 1939:
CHARLES }ADAL'S, County Road Superintendent, was a former student
and sympathizer of the Highlander Folk School, He demanded to be allowed
to appoint all W.F,4. foremen on road projects, This the W.F.4, suthorities
rofused to allow him to do, Inmmedictely thereafter, agitation commenced !
for a strike of the W.P.A. workers. am often saw JALES DOMBROVSKI and
bales EORTON cut on W.P,A. projects talkine to the workers, DOwPRCWSKI and
HORTON would leave when QM cane within hearing distance, when the
otrike was called, the W.P.A. workers took over the W.P.a. office at Tracy
“otty and sta ged a sit-dow strike. HORTON and DOKPROWSKI brought girls
fren the lighlander Folk School to the W.P.4. office where the strike was in
progress, These persons from the Highlander Folk School made specches to the
strikers, edvising them as to the proper method of conducting the strike and
the girls from the Hichlander Folk School donced with the strikers in the
“eP.A. office. aA great deal of liquor was in evidence at the W.P.A. office
during the sit-dowm strike, @§MM stcted that it is his understanding
that some of the girls from the Highlander Folk School had sexual relations
with some of the strikers, He has no proof of this cllegation, (ap

perecnt of the ¥.P.4. workers in Grundy County were associated with or
sympathizers of the Highlander rolk School, only two or three W,.P.A. workers
